... Ken & Fran's Travelogue - 2023
Spent the winter in the Arizona region.
Enjoyed time getting caught up with friends and seeing what an Arizona winter looked like while living in an RV. If we didn't catch up with those of you living there, we apologize as time was spent with family and as it turns out doctor appointments.
Ken's sister, Rozalyn & husband Reynold came down for part of the winter and together we explored parts of Arizona (Sierra Vista, Ajo) & California (Anza Borrego).
Spent time in Quartzsite to see the "Big Tent" and experience all that Quartzsite had to offer. Remember that you can get a great salad at Silly Al's, but Ken enjoyed the pizza! Met some new friends and got some great ideas at the Outdoors RV Rally that was held at the same time as the Big Tent show.
Got real familiar with Arizona State Trust Land near Lake Pleasant in Peoria, AZ. This was close to the city but turned out was a windy dusty camping experience... Ugh! Best thing is that we had lots of space to spread out on this essentially free land. This winter was the coldest that we had seen for many years so we didn't do too much outside activity. Could be that we were just a little bit lazy?!
Took a quick week long trip (without the trailer) to Chico, CA to have a larger 58 gal gas tank swapped out from our original 30 gal one. And on the way back visited with Janice in South Lake Tahoe and played lots of cards and games as the weather was very cool in mid May. If you ever get a chance, play some "Royalty", as it is great to be King!
Also took this time to get caught up on Dr visits while we are in the home Peoria area. As a result, I needed to have a surgical procedure to correct a prolapsed bladder and while they were in the area, decided to have a full hysterectomy as well. Surgery was originally scheduled for Mar, it was cancelled due to my low heart rate (nothing alarming, it seems to be just how my body works but the anesthesiologist did not want to put me under nonetheless). Rescheduled for Apr and surgery was again cancelled as the anesthesiologist wanted me to be on updated dose of Nature Thyroid for four weeks not two that he originally said at the first surgery date. So surgery finally took place on May 19th, successful at that!
Come May 22nd, it was time to escape the heat of the desert, so after spending a few days at Matt & Melissa's for initial recovery from surgery, we headed to Congress, AZ for one night at the Escapees RV Park and then on to Kingman, AZ to sit tight at the Fort Beale RV Park for another 6 nights. Full hookups are such a treat and we were able to shower everyday!!
A quick rest stop to stretch our legs after leaving Congress and Ken couldn't resist getting a picture of Snoopy!
Someday we will travel the entire Route 66, but in the meantime, there is lots of Route 66 history here in Kingman, AZ.
And of course, there were 3 breweries within a short walking distance from the RV Park. This was the favorite, Rickety Cricket.
The Hualapai (pronounced Wallapie) Mountain Resort was a 20 min drive from Kingman up thru the mountains and a great place to have a plate of wings and a beer. Looks like a lot of ATV use here.
