June 27 to July 9, 2022 - Peoria, AZ to Beaumont, AB
A - June 27, 2022
Peoria, AZ
Our home at 9212 W Marconi Ave in Peoria, AZ is empty and has sold and we are headed out to start our adventure of full-time RV travel. We couldn't be more excited; well I could be if the solar was working 100%, but Ken assures me that it will work, it just needs a little tweaking! Here's hoping...
B - June 27, 2022
Kingman, AZ
Left Peoria, met up for a late lunch in Wickenburg, AZ with Marco & Rebecca (friends from Rotary and who graciously provided wisdom and tools to help with our solar install) and then we were off to the Kingman, AZ region.
Found a great boondocking site on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land - just south of the I40 and east of Kingman.
Celebrating the sale of the house and the start of our new stage in life with a beautiful sunset to end the day!
C - June 28, 2022
Fillmore, UT
A quick stop at another BLM location in UT. We happened to be there at the same time as when a couple of cowgirls were headed down the mountain with a few stray cattle. Missed the opportunity to grab a picture, but it was pretty neat to see them.
D - June 29, 2022
Idaho Falls, ID
Tried out a Harvest Host location for the first time. This is an organization where businesses (like breweries, wineries, golf courses, farms, museums, etc) and travelers join and then the travelers can stay overnight for free at the business if there is availability. Travelers are expected to purchase from the business as payment for the free parking.
For this location, we stayed in downtown Idaho Falls at a brewery (Snow Eagle Brewing & Grill) and had dinner and of course drinks at their location. Also enjoyed a walk along the man made Falls and enjoyed the picturesque Japanese Gardens. Rotary International had a big presence downtown with one of these being a plaque informing us about the prisoners of war camp that was in Idaho Falls.
Definitely this downtown is a must see and we would have enjoyed more time to explore but we only had the one night. We likely would not stay at the Harvest Host location as it was just a little too noisy at nighttime.
E - June 30, 2022
Great Falls, MT
Our last stop in the USA for the next few months. We were going to stay at the Walmart parking lot in Great Falls, but they no longer allow overnight parking so it was onto the next possible stop. I found a rest area on the freeway and luckily for us, Montana allows you to stay overnight to "rest" . And as it was the last night in the US before crossing the border into Canada, we just had to finish up the last bottle of champagne that we had! It is a tough life... but our payment for the drink was a night without cell service which made for a very quiet rest area as no one else stopped in for the night.
F - July 1 to 6, 2022
Medicine Hat, AB
Arrived on Canada Day (July 1) and had a chance to visit with my Mom, brother Duane, Allyn and their families. Also was able to get out and spend a little time on the e-bikes with about 10 mile ride on a paved path from our campground to the Echo Date campground. There sure is a learning curve to riding these bikes, but hills are no longer a problem! And we saw our first wildlife sighting at the Gas City Campground!
G - July 7 to 9, 2022
Beaumont, AB
Stopped in the Edmonton area to drop off a baby wagon for our niece and visit more family. We were able to stay right in Beaumont at the Gerry Patsula RV Park, very convenient.
And you just never now what you are able to find at Canadian Tire! A store with a little bit of everything.
While there, we were fortunate to be able to see our new Rotary International president for this year; Jennifer Jones (1st female in the history of Rotary!) and she happens to be Canadian. She was on her Rotary Imagine tour of Canada and she spoke at Fort Edmonton; a historical tourist site. Ken really enjoyed beating the fur trader at a game of chess!
On our way out of town, we had a wonderful coffee with Diana and Sherron, so good to see them both!
