Original plans were to stay in Arizona spending time visiting with family & friends and leave mid January. But alas Ken got sick with what we thought was a cold on New Years Day. I was able to avoid getting the bug but after a week and half my body finally succumbed and I picked up a head cold. By Jan 14 Ken was no better (he seemed to be better on the 13th ?), so after an ER visit, it turns out he picked up Covid as well as pneumonia! So after already not doing much for the first two weeks we continue to sit and hopefully we will head to southern Texas by Jan 25ish. As of today, one week into the good meds, Ken is feeling oh so much better. And we are smarter now for knowing what pneumonia sounds like!
Not as many balloons as last year but still they are around.
Arizona has the most beautiful sunsets!
Not sure this was a lucky thing or not as Ken only had a cold when our truck turned over to 77,777.7miles!
The wild burros are not normally seen where we are staying out here on State Trust Land, but I managed to catch these two.
Look closely can you see the coyote in the pic below? He is well fed and while I watched him, he got a mouse. This was at Skyline Park Regional Campground in Buckeye. We were hoping to spend time with Matt & Melissa as it is only 10 min or so from their home but Ken was still sick at this time as was I.
Finally left AZ State Trust Land and working our way slowly to the south. Ken is feeling better, however his ribs are causing him the most pain and they seem to be taking the most time to heal up.
Ken's sister, Rozalyn & Reynold are in Maricopa staying with his other sister Leslie & Steve which is why we chose to stay close in Casa Grande at the Escapees park. We took the day to spend with R&R at the Queen Creek Olive Mill in Queen Creek about an hour away from Maricopa.
Took the one hour tour of the facility and learned all about the production of olive oil produced from the olives that grow here. The "eating olives" are produced at their Yuma facility.
Who is that helping Ken?
Of course ...had to be Reynold. And no he did not pick this Buddha Hand Citron, it was already on the ground.
Ended our day with a delicious meal at Leslie & Steve's.
It was a 2 hour drive from Casa Grande to Benson.
Just south of Tucson is another Escapees Park (we are members and are therefore allowed to stay there if room permits). Ken still needs time to heal up so decided to spend another week just hanging around. Forgot to get photos of our site but this was a really nice park with lots of space between the sites.
The only draw back was the train that went by in town that could be heard from the park. We however got used to it and it did not bother us after the first night.
After setting up in the campground, we drove the hour back into Tucson to have dinner with Andrew & Hayley and to visit with their cutie kitten, Sirius Black.
Ended the month with an ice cream treat at the Old Benson Ice Cream Stop.
I'm not sure why Ken parked in the Grumpy Old Men Parking spot!
Standing on a corner, waiting for a train to go by!
And sure enough...there was a train going by as we were there!
